The stock market crashed during Hoover’s term and he underestimated it majorly. While people were quickly loosing jobs, Hoover said this would be over in about sixty days. This was called the Great Depression. The people who lost their jobs could not afford to buy unnecessary goods so they didn’t buy any, this caused more people to lose their jobs. 

What did he do after he left office:

Hoover left office to be the longest living president after office with 19 years. In his final years he published 16 books including Fishing for Fun and, And to Wash Your Soul. And from 1939 until his death he served as the first Honorary Chairman.
